Grade three DLC students have been reading and writing different kinds of poetry. Our virtual Haiku Hike provided the opportunity to enjoy a nature setting and appreciate what could be seen, heard, and felt during the hike. Then students suggested and wrote descriptive words and phrases to capture the moment. Finally we worked together to write a haiku poem. Then students enjoyed more virtual tour time by the river and continued observing, listening, and writing words and phrases that will be transformed into more haiku poetry for their individual writing assignment. Most students joined the Haiku Hike virtually, but those who could, went on their own family hike while joining us on Zoom. We ended our Zoom meet with story time. What a beautiful day to be learning outdoors!
